Accurate Self-Assessment
This is the ability to realistically evaluate one's own strengths and limitations. It involves being aware of one's capabilities and shortcomings, seeking out feedback, and continuously learning from experiences. Those with this competency are open to constructive criticism and have a strong sense of where they need to improve.
Achievement Orientation
This competency involves striving to meet or exceed a standard of excellence. It's about setting challenging goals and taking calculated risks to achieve them. People with a strong achievement orientation are results-oriented, set high personal standards, and continuously seek ways to improve their performance.
Adaptability
This is the ability to be flexible in handling change. It involves being open to new ideas and approaches, and being comfortable with ambiguity. Adaptable individuals can juggle multiple demands, adapt their strategies to changing circumstances, and are comfortable with the fluidity of organizational life.
Change Catalyst
This is the ability to initiate, manage, and lead in a new direction. Change catalysts recognize the need for change, challenge the status quo, and champion the new direction. They can overcome barriers to change and engage others in the change process.
Conflict Management
This competency involves negotiating and resolving disagreements. It's about handling difficult people and tense situations with diplomacy and tact. Those skilled in conflict management can bring disagreements into the open, de-escalate tense situations, and orchestrate win-win solutions.
Developing Others
This competency is about sensing others' development needs and bolstering their abilities. It involves mentoring, giving constructive feedback, and offering assignments that challenge and foster a person's skills. Those skilled in developing others take an active interest in helping people grow professionally.
Emotional Self-Awareness
This competency involves recognizing one's own emotions and their effects. It's the ability to understand how your feelings impact your performance, behavior, and relationships. People with high emotional self-awareness can accurately identify and name their emotional states and understand the link between their emotions and their actions.
Emotional Self-Control
This is the ability to keep disruptive emotions and impulses in check. It involves managing one's internal states, impulses, and resources. People with strong emotional self-control can remain composed and positive even in stressful situations.
Empathy
This is the ability to sense others' feelings and perspectives, and take an active interest in their concerns. It involves being attentive to emotional cues and listening well. Empathetic individuals can understand and appreciate the feelings of a wide range of people from diverse backgrounds.
Influence
This is the ability to have a positive impact on others, persuading or convincing them to gain their support. It involves using a range of tactics to persuade, and being able to build consensus and support. Influential individuals are persuasive and engaging when addressing a group.
Initiative
This is about being ready to act on opportunities. It involves being proactive rather than reactive, anticipating problems, and taking action before being forced to by external events. Those with strong initiative seize opportunities, pursue goals beyond what's required, and mobilize others through enterprising efforts.
Inspirational Leadership
This competency involves inspiring and guiding individuals and groups. It's about articulating and arousing enthusiasm for a shared vision and mission. Inspirational leaders bring out the best in others, lead by example, and are able to articulate a compelling vision that motivates others.
Optimism
This competency is about persisting in pursuing goals despite obstacles and setbacks. It involves seeing the positive in situations and expecting the best in others. Optimistic individuals see setbacks as manageable circumstances rather than personal flaws, and they approach challenges with a "can-do" attitude.
Organizational Awareness
This competency involves reading a group's emotional currents and power relationships. It's about understanding the politics within an organization and how these affect the people working in it. Those with high organizational awareness can navigate complex social networks and align their actions with the underlying social and cultural structure of the organization.
Self-Confidence
This competency is about having a strong sense of one's self-worth and capabilities. It involves believing in oneself and one's abilities. People with high self-confidence are decisive, able to make sound decisions despite uncertainties, and can express themselves assertively.
Service Orientation
This is about anticipating, recognizing, and meeting customers' or clients' needs. It involves understanding customer needs and matching them to services or products. People with a strong service orientation seek ways to increase customers' satisfaction and loyalty, and gladly offer appropriate assistance.
Teamwork and Collaboration
This is about working with others toward shared goals and creating group synergy in pursuing collective goals. It involves building bonds, fostering a collaborative atmosphere, and creating opportunities for mutual gain. Those with this competency are team players who can nurture instrumental relationships and build collaborative, high-performing teams.
Transparency
This competency is about maintaining integrity and acting congruently with one's values. It involves being open and honest about one's feelings, beliefs, and actions. Those high in transparency are trustworthy, admit mistakes, and confront unethical behavior in others.
